Detailed
Description
Anonymous philosophical and polemical anti-Reform work edited by R. Menki ben Wolf Zev of Glogau. The title page states that it Mahberet Derekh Emet ve-Emunah brought to press by R. Menki of Glogau. There is an introduction by R. Menki which begins this is the book of the history of man that he wrote, and, for his own reasons, did not call the work by his name. He did not write it for his honor or to make his name great, for, as he says, one will not find in it anything novel from his heart or intelligence, for everything is taken or copied from the books of others, whether from our people or from those who are not of our people. Menki continues that the writer wrote only from the love of truth, for which he thirsted, and therefore it was appropriate to entitle his book Derekh Emet ve-Emunah (the way of truth and faith). The anonymous author begins with questions about the basis of faith and the contradictions between religions. Derekh Emet ve-Emunah explores the questions that he raises, discusses the revelation at Sinai, the positions of philosophers, and new customs and ideas in religion. The volume concludes with errata.

The text is in a single column in rabbinic letters, excepting headers and initial words. Derekh Emet ve-Emunah is written in a clear and lucid style.
