Commentary on the Passover Haggadah by R. Naftali Hayyim ben Meir Horowitz of Dzikov. On the title page the author states that it is intended to explain deep matters, to teach Torah and hukim, for “Her ways are ways of pleasantness” (Proverbs 3:17). He writes that, “it is a present sent” (cf. Genesis 32:19) by him, son-in-law of Hayyim Zanzer [Halberstam], grandson of Maharm of Tiktin. On the verso of the title page are letters (approbations) from R. Hayyim Halberstam and R. Joseph Saul ha-Levi Nathanson. The text is comprised of the commentary only without the text of the Haggadah. It is set in two columns in rabbinic type excepting headers and initial words. It has been suggested that the title page alone was set by the Gashzini press, whose name appears on the title page, for the letters of the text are those of the Bak press. This copy is munificently bound in stamped leather.

R. Naftali Hayyim ben Meir Horowitz of Dzikov (1840-95) was the eldest son of R. Meir of Dzikov. For a time he lived in Nowy Zanz. Refusing to accept any rabbinical positions, R. Naftali Hayyim left his wife, Yohevet Rebbeca, and emigrated to Erez Israel. Once there he resided first in Safed and then in Jerusalem. He visited his family in Nwor for a brief time but then returned to Erez Israel. Among his other works are Minhah Hadashah, novellae on the Jerusalem Talmud (Jerusalem, 1880).
