Detailed
Description
Zionist pamphlet in support of the settlements in Erez Israel, and predicting the coming of the Messiah in 1906 by R. Bendit Elimelech ha-Levi Gross. The title page has a double-lined border with the verse, “Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and those who return to her with righteousness” (Isaiah 1:27) and appropriate lines at the sides. The bottom line is, “and bring us to Zion with the voice of singing” which is also used to date the pamphlet. The text of the title page states that its purpose of this book is to revive the hearts of the children of Israel to arouse their herts from slumber scattered in the four corners of the earth to support the settlements in the holy land. For so is the allusion, for first the land will be settled naturally and afterwards will sprout ben David, “a redeemer come to Zion” (Isaiah 59:20).It gives the author’s name as Bendit Elimelech ha-Levi known as Gross, born Rosenatov (Galician). On the verso is a request that anyone who reads this work do so in an orderly manner not skipping between subjects for it has been purposefully arranged. Below is a prohibition against unauthorized reprinting and an approbation from the av bet din Beradshin. The text is in a single column in rabbinic type. The first part of the work is in Hebrew with a Yiddish translation below. Part two, beginning on p. 40, is Torat Emet, set in Hebrew only. In the introduction R. Gross writes that after explaining the verses in Daniel that in 1906 the Messiah will come and that in 1950 all foreign (idol) worship will cease.
