Detailed
Description
Ashkenaz rite siddur with a new and comprehensive commentary entitled Siftei Kohen by Baruch Kahana. The title page states that the siddur includes all the prayers and benedictions from the elders, prophets, and the Anshe Kenesset ha-Gedolah, and after them the sages of Erez Israel and Bavel. It is accompanied by Siftei Kohen, which explains the contents of the prayers according to the peshat (literal meaning) according to the principles of the Ba’alei ha-Talmud, and Midrashim of the sages. It is explained in such a manner that there is no repetitive material, nor is there intellectually pretentious material. It is all in the manner established by the Malbim. The verso of the title page has a prohibition against unauthorized reprinting from the author, who grants his rights after him to his son, R. Mordecai David Kahan in New York. R. Kanaha’s name and address are given below as Rabbi B. Cohen, 25 Gruesenberg Street, Tel Aviv, Palestinne. His introduction follows, and then a lengthy approbation from R. Abraham Isaac ha-Kohen Kook. There is verse from R. Isaiah Zev Worshabky of New York, and Shir Zion from R. Mordecai ha-Levi av bet din קאלוואריא. The text begins with Sha’ar Yosef, which explains names and terms that appear in the siddur. The prayes beggin on 8b in square vocalized Hebrew. At t he bottom of the page is Siftei Kohen, a detailed and comprehensive commentary on the siddur in a clear and lucid style.
