Preussischer Landesverband Juedischer Gemeinden
[Community - Ms.]
This listing is an independent item not part of any collection
ff. of various sizes, incorporating several documents, typescript and printed in fraktur, some leaves browned at edges, bound in contemporary half cloth and marbled paper over boards.
Several documents from the 1925 conference of the Preussischer Landesverband juedischer Gemeinden held in Berlin. Until World War I the majority of Prussian communities were organized within the Oeutsch-Israelitischer Gemeindebund, which failed due to the differences between the numerous small, rural, and needy communities and the large wealthy ones, primarily in Berlin. When a single communal organization failed to emerge after the war the Berlin community responded by organizing the Preussischer Landesverband juedischer Gemeinden. Its opening session in 1921 was attended by 110 communities. This number soon grew to include some 656 communities representing over ninety-five percent of Prussian Jewry, making it the largest regional communal organization in Germany. Both its charter and activities were modeled on the defunct Oeutsch-Israelitischer Gemeindebund.
