Detailed
Description
Derashot on the weekly parsha by R. Hayyim David ben David Sherero. The text of the title page, set within a decorative frame comprised of rows of florets and hand pointers on the sides, states that it is midrashim, desirable, vigorous and flourishing (Psalms 92:15) in the order of the Torah. The title page is dated with a chronogram based on the verse And in Salem is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place is in Zion (Psalms 76:3). The verso and following leaf have R. Shereros introduction. In the final paragraph on [2a] R. Sherero explains why he entitled the work Sukkat David, and despite the fact that the title page says it is part one it is in reality a unified work and it is so called because he took two staffs, calling one for his name is engraved on the staff, and calling the second for the two together are brothers and not to be separated. The text is made up of dershot, often several to a parsha, set in two columns in rabbinic type, excepting headers and initial words. The volume concludes with an index of sources (206a-13a) and a short list of errata.

R. Sherero, among the sages of Salonika, was also the author of Mishneh Kesef, novellae on Maimonides Mishneh Torah (Salonika, 1816).
