Incisive observations on the relationships of Israel (Jewry) and the nations of the world among whom we reside in general, and specifically in Poland by R. Meir Feival ben Benzal Getz. The author’s name is given on the title page as אב"ד הכהן, which informs that it was given over to print by Jews from Warsaw and that it was published as an a supplement to ha-Modeah, year four no. 45. The text begins that in the past it was the custom of the Jews in exile to have as representatives and intercessors princes of Torah, great sages, and men of accomplishment whose names were known and recognized. It then provides a long list of examples, beginning with lists R. Hasdi Shaprut. These men devoted their hearts and souls for the benefit of their people and religion. This is not so today, however, when the representatives are not, among themselves, careful in observing mitzvoth and in their deeds. Nevertheless, they are proud of their heritage and religion and attempt to serve the Jewish people. Kuma Yisrael is concerned with this, related and derivative issues.
