   R. Solomon b. Eliezer ha-Levi (c. 1497-1516), Turkish Talmudist, brother of R. Abraham b. Eliezer ha-Levi, who quotes him in his Ma'amar ha-Yihud. R. Solomon was the author of Moreh Zedek, or Avodat ha-Levi (Constantinople, 1516), a treatise on the 613 commandments, indicating the passages of the Talmud, Sifra, Sifre, Mekilta, Maimonides' Yad, and later rabbinical literature in which they are treated. According to Shabbethai Bass (Sifte Yeshenim, s.v. Moreh Zedek), the first part is entitled Moreh Zedek, and the second part Avodat ha-Levi. R. Solomon states, in the introduction, that he composed this work when he was still very young. Confusing R. Solomon's brother, mentioned above, with R. Abraham ha-Levi of Adrianople, R. Solomon Athias (preface to his commentary on Psalms) credits the latter with the authorship of the Avodat ha-Levi.

Marco Antonio Giustiniani was a Christian printer of Hebrew books in Venice in the 16th century. His master printer Cornelius Adelkind printed a fine edition of the Babylonian Talmud (1546–51). Soon, this very active press faced a formidable competitor in the house of Bragadini which issued Maimonides' Mishneh Torah, with the notes of R. Meir Katzenellenbogen. Giustiniani then printed the full text of that code without R. Meir's notes. The mutual recriminations that the rivals engaged in at the Papal Court ultimately resulted in the confiscation and burning of all Hebrew books (1553).
