Description Information
95, 63, [1] ff. octavo 212:130 mm., nice margins, light age staining, stamps, stamps. A very good copy bound in contemporary boards, rubbed.
Concise halakhic work in Judeo-German by R. Abraham ben Solomon Zalman (1825–1882), a member of Broda family of rabbis in Lithuania and Slovakia (then in Hungary) from the 17th century on. The title page of Halikhot Olam describes it as being of benefit to our brothers, Benei Yisrael, who fear the Lord and desire His mitzvot. The author has exerted himself to transcribe all the dinnim from the Shulhan Arukh necessary for every Jew in Judeo-German, well arranged, so that a person can perform and live by them. There are approbations from R. Abraham Isaac, av bet din, Kleinwardein and R. Menahem ben Meir A”S, av bet din, Ungvar. An introduction from the author follows, then a table of contents, and then the text. Halikhot Olam is a comprehensive, albeit concise work beginning with netillat yadi’im in the morning, encompassing dietary laws from Yoreh De’ah and concluding with Aveilut and Kaddish.

R. Abraham ben Solomon Zalman was born in Ungvár (Uzhgorod) and studied in the yeshivah of R. Moses Sofer in Pressburg. He lived in Kleinwardein and was rabbi of Nagyberezna from 1876 until his death. He was also the author of Peri he-Ḥag (2 pts., 1871–76), on the laws of Passover.
