Detailed
Description
The Rev. Solomon Lyon (1755-1820) was a teacher of Hebrew at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and here published a volume in two parts which includes a Hebrew grammar..."illustrated with accurate tables" to which is added a compendious Chaldean and English grammar as well as a Hebrew and English lexicon, "comprising all the roots as found in the Bible, arranged in alphabetical order with the meaning of each root..."

Rev. Lyon studied at the University of Prague and came to England at the latter part of the 18th century. He established the first Jewish boarding school in England and became a registered tutor at the University of Cambridge. He taught Hebrew to several persons of social distinction, among them the Duke of Sussex, the Duke of Wellington and many others. His daughter, Miss Emma Lyon, was a distinguished poetess.
