Description
   On the history, importance, and sacredness of Tiberius by R. Moses ben Meir Kliers. The title page describes it as being about the holy city of Tiberius, which is situated in the center of Erez Israel (Megillah 6a), and in it is explained its praise, virtues, qualities, and greatness, its synagogues, from earlier times, its surroundings, sages and rabbis, its hot springs, the Sea of Kinneret, the well of Mariam, and the graves of the righteous. The verso of the title page has a dedicatory page from the author, to be completed by the purchaser, with R. Kliers’ address, in Tiberias (sic) (per Beyrouth Syrie) in Palestine. Tehre are approbations from R. Jacob David Ridbaz and R. Jehiel Michael Heilperin, an introduction from R. Kliers, and a detailed table of contents describing the books ten chapters. A brief summary of the contents includes the first chapter explains the reasons for Tiberius being such a praiseworthy city, noting, among other virtues, that it was the last residence of the Sanhedrin in Israel, and Rashi’s questions on this. And that from Tiberius the redemption will begin. The second chapter discusses the fact that Tiberius was the residence of the tribe of Naphtali, and that a get written in lower Galil is invalid. Chapter four describes the early sages in Tiberius, five is a historical accounting of events from the time of the Raman rulers, six the settlement of Ashkenazim in Tiberius, seven on the Kinneret, and ten on the merit of the fathers. Included in Tabur ha-Erez is a complete transcription of R. Jacob Berab’s Zemirot ha-Erez, and much more.
