[Avot] R. Mordecai Isaac ben Hayyim Judah
This listing is an independent item not part of any collection
Only edition. 24 ff. octavo 160:90 mm., light age staining, small tear in title taped on verso. A good copy bound in modern boards.
Only edition of this commentary on Pirkei Avot by R. Mordecai Isaac ben Hayyim Judah. The attractive title page, with a vignette of the Temple, states that Teshu’at Mordekhai is an ethical work on Pirkei Avot. Those who look into it will find a paved way for the many to return to the Lord in the way of truth. The title page is dated with the verse “Fear not, O Jacob, my servant” (Isaiah 44:2, Jeremiah 30:10, 46: 27, 28). There is an introduction from the author in which he discusses his intent and publishing Teshu’at Mordekhai. R. Mordecai Isaac then writes that he brought this book out to light, that is, he published it, not for his honor but for the glory of his Maker, and that it should be for him a remembrance for his soul after his death, and also to benefit the public, for the honor of his holy forefathers and their Torah and it should stand for him and his daughter Malka Haiyya with her husband and their offspring and their offspring’s offspring for ever, and specifically for his sister Devorah and her husband Jerahom Fischel. The introduction is followed by the text in a single column in rabbinic letters with key words in enlarged square letters.
