Detailed
Description
Popular, much reprinted work of prayers for the Jewish women by Fanny Neuda. The title, Stunden der Andacht (Hours of Devotion) is followed by a subtitle, ein Gebet- und Erbauungs-Buch für Israels Frauen und Jungfrauen zur öffentlichen und häuslichen Andacht (a prayer and a devotion book for of Israel women and young girls for both public and domestic devotion). It informs that the autjhor’s maiden name was Schmidt and has, in German, Psalm 77:11. On the verso is a quote from Das buch der Erziehung (Book of Education) followed by a dedication to the noble (highborn, hochgeboren) Baronness Louise von Rothschild, wife of the noble Baron Carl von Rothschild in deepest reverence from the author and the publisher. The table of contents follows, listing close to three and a half pages of prayers, beginning with morning prayers, and encompassing all possible occasions, including hagbah in the synagogue. It concludes with a brief discourse on noble mothers and women in Israel (edlen mutter und frauen in Israel). The text is in Fraktur.
