This listing is an independent item not part of any collection
Broadsheet, 530:415 mm., usual browning, split on folds, neatly restored.
Wall sized poster to instruct children in the basics of the Hebrew alphabet and basic prayers. The Hebrew alphabet is presented in large letters in two rows across the top of the page. Below the alphabet in three columns are, from right to left, the first paragraph of Shema, the letters with vowels, and the third paragraph of Shema. Below are several morning prayers: Modeh, al netilat yadim, and al mitzvoth tzizit. Next are prayers related to food recited after eating, namely borei nefashot, and ma’ain shelosh with seven possible variations, depending upon what was eaten. Before each of these prayers are brief instructions in Yiddish. The entire text is within a decorative border. At the bottom is an owner’s stamp, from M. Sequerra of Gibraltar, and to the left a signature. The poster, to be used either in classroom or at home, is designed to both teach the child the Hebrew alphabet and to inculcate basic Jewish values.
