Special edition, beautifully bound and boxed, with gilt edges, of a presentation copy of the Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. The volume is presented to Lionel David Barnett by his colleages, past and present. This is Volume XII parts 3 and 4. there are two title pages and a photograph with the signature of Dr. Barnett. The title pages are followed by a preface that begins, “Dear Barnett, The dedication to you of this number of the Bulletin (of which from 1940 to 1947 you have been the editor) is a tribute by your colleagues in the School . . . to a long career of eminence in mnay fields of Oriental learning.” A list of contributions to the journal follows, representing thirty-eight entries. Among the contributors are B[ernard] Lewis, T. Burrows, and others, representing the greatest names in Oriental studies. The contents are varied, ranging from Jacob Leveen’s “An Eye-witness Account of the Expedition of the Florentines against Chios in 1599;” A. S. Fulton’s “Firuzabadi’s ‘Wine-List’” to J. R. Firth’s “Word-Platograms and Articulation [with plates].”
