Description Information
[79] ff., 184:125 mm., usual light age staining, few wormholes, ink on paper, neat Yemenite block letters surrounded by commentary in neat Rashi letters, signed and dated, not bound.
Kosher laws pretaining to slaugter and examination of animals following Yemenite customs. The directory was written to provide exact information for shohtim in the villages and to stimulate Torah study by R. Salah (1715-1805), chief rabbi of Sana, Yemen, with commentary, Lehem Todah, by R. Yahya Badihi. The scribe was a prominent rabbinical scholar who emigrated to Israel in 1949 and passed on in 1956 in Pardes Hanah.

For hundreds of years the Yemenite Jewish communities followed their traditional ways of secular and religious life, not being influenced by external trends and currents. Some customs in the Yemenite prayer rites go back to the prayer book of R. Saadiah Ga'on. From the 16th century on the Kabbalah and especially later its Lurianic school and system found its way to Yemen and influenced Jewish literary production in the areas of commentaries to the Bible, prayers, and liturgic poetry. All of this rich history is reflected in this work.
